What You Should Know About Antiaging Skin Care Products

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Ultimately it doesn’t seem like we can stop our skin from aging but we can slow it down. You can slow the aging process by utilizing antiaging skin care product. So don’t panic – rather plan how to slow the aging process.

There are many antiaging skin care products that can really make your skin younger in just a few days of use. No, not all of these antiaging skin care products have to cost you a small fortune. In fact, many of these antiaging skin care products are quite affordable.

However, you do not want to just buy any anti aging skin care products off the shelf of your local drug store without really studying their ingredients and their possible effects on your skin. You should realize that some types of skin care products can have negative side effects.

Choosing the Right Anti Aging Skin Care Products

People have different skin types so you need to use the products that will help you the most. Some people have sensitive skin, dry skin, and oily skin as examples. Additionally, there are people who are prone to skin allergies. So be aware that people do have different types of skin. You will want to determine the type of skin that you have before you go shopping for anti aging skin care products.

Always remember that skin care products that are not suited for your type of skin can actually do more damage than good for your skin. To avoid causing further damage to your skin, you need to be sure to buy the skin care products that will actually help you improve the condition of your skin.

Consider Gender

Aside from knowing your skin type, you should also take into consideration your gender when buying anti aging skin care products. Always bear in mind that men and women have different skin care needs. For instance, men have naturally thicker and oilier skin compared to women, thus, if you use anti aging skin care products that are designed for women on a man’s face, you will not get ideal results.

Note that skin care products that are designed for women contain a lot of moisturizers. Since a man’s skin is naturally oily, it does not need a lot of moisturizers as does the skin of a woman.

Getting to much oil on your skin can produce acne or other skin irritants which is the opposite of what you are wanting.

Be sure to consider your skin type when selecting the antiaging skin care product that will help you slow the aging process of your skin.

Tips For Choosing Man Skin Care Products

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Nowadays, men are increasingly taking care of their skin. We have come to realize this is not just about looking good, it’s primarily about health. But realizing this, is just the first step, then the second step becomes a little bit harder. It’s then, when ask the question: What man skin care products should I use?

First you should start getting to know your skin. Man skin care products are special depending on the type of skin you have. Look at shaving creams and face cleaning soaps for example, they have certain types: for sensitive skin, for dry skin, oily skin. Determine which skin type you have, and work from there.

Other thing you need to keep in mind is your main goal with a product. Man skin care products exist for a variety of applications, from anti-aging creams to pore cleaning products. But remember also that you should take care of all your skin as well. A younger face means not only less wrinkles but an overall healthy look.

I would also recommend to always prefer natural man skin care products. The reason? Just as the name says, it’s natural. You’ll be amazed of the quality of natural products for the skin available for men since ancient ages. Some man skin care products have us so blinded by claims of miracle chemical ingredients, that we often forget the simplicity of natural skin care.

The man skin care product market is just beginning, now that more and more men want these kind of products you’ll see new offers pop up. Don’t get caught on nice packaging and miracle claims, always stick to the facts because is your health what we are talking about here. Finally, remember great man skin care products make you feel great. Listen to your body and you can’t go wrong.

Baby Skin Care Products

A Quick Users Guide

One of the things that we’ve been frustrated with was what seemed like a lack of safe baby skin care products. Hence the first version of the Paraben and Phthalate Free Bath Care Cheat Sheet But as we were searching we realized that there actually are a lot of really great products out there, and so we compiled as many of them as we could find, and put them all in one central location for our readers to peruse. A few things to note:

1. Not every single product that’s out there, is going to be on this list. We’ve found tons of stuff, and have turned over many stones, but I’m sure there are some out there that we’ve missed. That said, if you’re using a product that’s safe, and it isn’t on here, please email us or comment and we’ll research the product add it to the list.

2. If your product isn’t on here, it may be because it didn’t meet the requirements for this spreadsheet. All of the products listed on here are free of parabens, sodium laureth sulfates (SLS), phthalates, 1,4 dioxanes, propylene glycol, and PEG’s (with the exception of a few of the Belli products that are labeled for use during pregnancy).

3. Safety Rating: In addition to that, we crossed refrenced these products with EWG’s Cosmetic Safety Database and added the score to each product on the sheet. Not every product, unfortunately, is in the CSD, however, that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad product, but you’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not you feel comfortable using it.

4. Not all products that are manufactured by these companies have been listed. We kept this simply listed to baby skin care, and products that a person might use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and we noted each product as such. Again, it’s not that the other products are bad, it’s just that, well, this is list already very long, and the website is called Safe Mama after all.

5. At the time of this publication, we hadn’t heard back from a couple of the companies. We’re pretty sure that California Baby is free of dioxanes, but because we hadn’t heard back from them after a few attempts at contact, we decided to put “unknown.” We’d rather be safe than sorry.

We hope you’ll find this spreadsheet useful. We wanted to make sure that the Mamas (and the Daddys) know that there are lots of options out there for your little ones skin care needs.

Skin Care Important Tips and Benefits

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Did you know, that the skin is the largest organ of the human body? Mostly we take our skin very much for granted and don´t spend much time thinking about it until some problem occurs or we injure ourselves.

The skin helps in regulating our body´s temperature, like when we have a fever or we´re physically working hard, we tend to sweat, which is the body´s way to attempt to lower the temperature.

The skin also protects us from harmful substances entering our body, and it eliminates many toxins. This takes workload off our Kidneys to filter out by-products from our body´s metabolism. The skin also breathes!

As you can see, looking after your skin is vital, not just for your outer beauty, but for maintaining your inner health.

Top Ten Natural Skin Care Tips

1. Wear a sunblock every day… The primary cause of premature aging is exposure to the sun without adequate care and protection.

2. Get ample sleep… Most of the body’s repair and rejuvenation occurs while you sleep.

3. Choose products carefully… Everyone’s skin is different, so try several to see which products work best for you and which produce an anti effect.

4. Don’t wash your skin too often… Washing strips oil and moisture. Besides, tap water contains chlorine which causes oxidative damage. Washing your face twice a day is sufficient.

5. Caring Carrot Mask: Take a carrot, grate and mix it well with one spoon of honey. Apply this all over the face and leave it for only 15 minutes. Now wash and feel the difference after regular use.

6. Healthy Honey treat: Mix one spoon of honey with the white of an egg and grated potato. Apply this on the face and let it dry. Wash it off with cold water and feel the magic of freshness.

7. Cleansing is the most important aspect of skin-care. It is undertaken primarily to remove the stale make-up, clean the skin pores and exfoliate the dead cells which otherwise cause blockages on the skin’s surface.

8. Use a daily moisturizer with at least 15 to 30 SPF. Before you go to bed, apply a thick moisturizer to help repair dryness from the cold air.

9. Keep skin healthy with dry brushing with a natural bristle brush to increase circulation and fend off dry skin cells.

10. Lots of fruits and veggies will help maintain a healthy ph balance.

There are many benefits of organic skin care because true all-natural products contain no harmful chemicals or additives. If you have allergies, recurring skin rashes (or eczema), itchy or dry skin, or even very oily skin, then you might be worsening the problem by using products with certain chemicals and additives. Organic skin care provides a natural way for you to cleanse your skin and hair, enhance your beauty with cosmetics, and even protect your skin from the sun. If you have very sensitive skin, natural hair care and skin care products might even help prevent outbreaks of rashes or skin redness and irritation.

Dry Skin Care During Menopause

Dry Skin Care Treatment Needs To Change During Menopause

While most dry skin is caused by frequent contact with chemicals in soaps, household cleansers and cosmetics, hormonal changes during menopause present an entirely different problem. It is wise to find products that will accommodate the changes your body is going through. Diet and lifestyle choices are very important and changing your cosmetics and skin care products is vital. Although not the only change you should make, one of the most effective is to use a shielding lotion for dry skin care on a daily basis.

During menopause, as the levels of estrogen and other hormones become unbalanced, the skin begins to thin. Oil glands become less productive and the skin loses elasticity. These changes require that you also change your dry skin care routine.

Here are a few helpful hints on changes you can make that will help alleviate the problems.

* Add more high quality oil to your diet. Coconut oil and olive oil are especially good for your skin. Both are great for cooking and as a salad dressing base. Also, eat more fish, especially salmon, but make sure you get it from a source that is not laden with mercury and other chemicals.

* Take special care in the sun. Again, watch out for the chemicals in sunscreens. Check your health food store or online for natural UV ray-blocking products.

* Do whatever you can to get a good night’s sleep. Hormonal changes often make this difficult, but not doing so can exacerbate pre-existing dry skin conditions.

* Exercise. A 20-minute walk every day will usually be all you need to keep the circulation up and help tone the muscles. You should also try facial exercises: they do the same for the face as other types of exercise do for the rest of the body. Exercise is a basic for dry skin care associated with aging.

* Use natural cleansers and cosmetics. There are several products in health food stores that don’t contain chemicals. In fact, when it comes to cleansers, you can use the same coconut oil you’re going to cook with. It’s an excellent dry skin care cleanser.

* Get rid of your moisturizers and use a shielding lotion. A good shielding lotion doesn’t just make your skin feel good: it locks in the skin’s natural moisture and keeps out the chemicals that cause dry skin.

Although most people prefer to look young, there are many benefits to getting older: with any luck, you’ve also become wiser, more accomplished and more knowledgeable about life and how to live it happily. Don’t let your body get you down! Make the changes above and you’ll alleviate many of the problems of menopause, including solving your dry skin care dilemma, and be more able to enjoy life.

Thirsty Skin

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I find it ironic that it wasn’t until I moved out of Florida, my native state of swamps and sawgrass, that my skin turned to alligator hide.

In the throes of my first Colorado winter, I can deal with driving on snow and chipping away ice to access my gas tank. I can handle retiring my flip-flops to a corner of my closet and always wearing at least three layers of clothing outdoors.

But I have a really hard time with the painful drought winter has worn on my skin. No matter how often I lather my hands with lotion, they are a perpetual rough, ashy white. I once made the mistake of snowboarding without covering my face, and it was red and sensitive for a week. It’s back to normal now, if normal should feel like a tight, dry mask.

I know being a humidity-starved Southerner doesn’t help my skin’s battle with the elements. But I refuse to believe that I’m the only one in this valley looking for ways to erase winter’s wrath from my skin. So it was, for only partly selfish reasons, that I set about asking local skin-care experts how to make my outer layer a little less reptilian.

A common problem
Dryness is a top complaint for people who deal with skin for a living.

“It’s a very common problem in this low humidity,” says Dr. Gary Cage, an Avon dermatologist who has practiced in the valley for 12 years. “Many people who have been in more humid climates don’t realize how quickly their skin can get dry here.”

Darcy Buster also sees a lot of parched skin this time of year as an aesthetician, or state-certified skin-care specialist, at Pure Life Skin Care in Edwards.

“I’ve had more complaints from clients that they’ve had trouble getting their skin hydrated,” Buster says. “Especially this winter, because it’s so cold … the more your heat is on, the more it dries out your skin.”

So not only was my skin unaccustomed to the low humidity, but my tendency to nudge up the thermostat was working against me, too. I needed help.

Professional guidance
Help arrived in the form of Molly Tierney, an aesthetician at the Spa at Cordillera. Spa Director Angie Brown had told me that a spa treatment could be a quick fix for dryness, so the Morning Mist hydrating facial sounded like just what I needed.

As Tierney cleansed, toned, exfoliated, masked, spritzed, moisturized and massaged my poor face, we talked about the hazards of dry skin.
Those fine lines on my nose were caused by dehydration, she said. Fine lines? What fine lines? Twenty-four is far too young for this nonsense. I asked her what I should do.

Tierney’s secret to hydration is twofold: supplements and sweet almond oil. She takes omega-3 and evening primrose oil supplements nightly, and each day smoothes on sweet almond oil, available at health-food stores.

The sweet almond oil sounded like something I should try — it doesn’t feel greasy, she said, and won’t make you break out. But what really convinced me was when Tierney, who I guessed was only a few years older than me, casually mentioned that she’s over 40. If that’s not a case for sweet almond oil, I don’t know what is.

For my hands, she suggested I try a kitchen cure: Exfoliate with some coarse sea salt, lather up with olive oil, then slide my hands into socks for 20 minutes or so. Skin is like dough, she said. If you don’t take care of it, it’ll crack and dry.

By the end of the 50-minute facial, my face felt soothed and rejuvenated.

“You’re glowing,” Tierney said.

I looked in the mirror. I was glowing. And with luck, and some more advice, perhaps I could stay that way.

Treatment tips
Nearly every skin expert I talked to stressed the importance of using sunscreen daily, since sun exposure can not only burn but also dry the skin.

Bathing can also cause problems. Too much soap, extremely hot water and long showers or soaks rob your skin of its natural oils, Cage says. He recommends using comfortably cool water (I know, not too pleasant when it’s below freezing outside) and using a mild soap, such as Dove, only on the places you feel are dirty (we’ll leave that up to you).

Simple, inexpensive treatments such as applying mineral oil after you bathe work for many people, Cage says. And drinking plenty of water is key to hydrating the body from the inside out, Cordillera’s Brown says.

But for individualized advice for your skin, Brown suggests getting a facial.

“If you’re wanting to know more about your skin, ask questions,” she says. “It is hard to know what’s right for your skin type.”

As for my face, the glow has worn off a bit. But at least I have some idea how to get it back.

Anti Aging Skin Care

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

We are all living longer and anti aging skin care has become a major concern. Let’s face it, we don’t want our faces to tell our age so you need a skin care regime that really works.

I had a woman ask me recently how I was able to look so young and vibrant. I took it as a compliment as I spend a good amount of time researching and implementing the perfect anti aging skin care regiment.

There are a number of different products on the market that claim to be able to skim years from our skin in only a matter of days. They promise incredible results with minimal effort. Unfortunately, these products and companies are often misleading. Like any other worthwhile endeavor, anti aging skin care takes a bit of hard work and devotion on your part to make succeed. I spent extra hours every week working towards smoothing away developing wrinkles. Trust me, if it was possible to make them disappear overnight, I would have spent more time on my hobbies.

Prevention

One of the most important parts of anti aging skin care is prevention. Even if you have a few telltale signs of age, prevention should still remain part of an effective daily skin care routine to avoid additional damage. Every anti aging skin care program should include a non-comedogenic moisturizer with an SPF 15 or higher everyday. Another part of a proper skin care routine is to avoid smoking and get plenty of sleep and exercise.

Moisturizers

As your skin begins to age, stronger skin care moisturizers should be used as well as a special moisturizer for around your eyes. Your everyday skin care routine should include antioxidants to neutralize those nasty free radicals we hear about, thanks to pollutants and sun. Ingredients to look for in your anti aging moisturizers to fight the free radicals are vitamin C, vitamin E and white or green tea.

Richer moisturizers can be used to replenish your skin with hydrating ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter, honey, royal jelly and milk.

Treatments

Making sure you have anti aging skin care treatments regularly will keep your skin looking young and smooth. You need to get rid of all those dead skin cells for your skin care moisturizers to be absorbed and do their job. One of the most effective methods to smooth and slough your skin is microdermabrasion, which uses tiny crystals to get rid of the top layer of skin. Another really effective anti aging skin care treatment is using a facial mask. Try using skin care facial masks with essential ingredients such as egg whites, oatmeal and honey cleanse your skin and add moisture at the same time.

Your Entire Body is Involved

Get your whole body into your skin care routine to prevent aging. After all, who wants “old” hands with a youthful face? Make sure your daily skin care program includes a moisturizer for your body, hands and feet. Use a loofah to get rid of dead skin cells on your body for younger looking skin.

Elements such as exercise, proper sleep and good diet all play a major part in anti aging skin care. Exercise boosts your circulation and delivers a healthy dose of oxygen to your skin. You need your sleep to rejuvenate your body, including your skin. The age-old statement “You are what you eat” describes your daily diet perfectly – well-balanced eating will show on your skin.

With a few skin care adjustments, you will enjoy a youthful complexion for many more years in the future.

Your Own Anti-Aging Strategy

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Some people feel that aging or growing old is like paying for something you haven’t consumed. But, if aging is understood properly and preventive measures are done in an orderly manner, then aging shouldn’t feel like a torture or a punishment for something you haven’t done.

It is a known fact that everything ages. Planets, stars, animals, plants, and people go through this natural cycle of life. For some people, aging is considered something dreadful because it reveals ugly lines on the face, wrinkles on the skin and even white hair.

Aside from these drastic physical changes, some people also dread aging because it slows down their system that hinders them from doing things that younger people can do, it affects memory, and it also affects overall composure.

Everybody wants to beautiful and wants to remain beautiful for the rest of their lives. But since aging affects a person’s physique and physical beauty, many people consider it a threat to their mission of maintaining their beauty and vitality.

But, since aging is a natural phenomenon, people can’t do much about it. If you are one of those people who experience the signs of aging this early and you want to do something about, now is the time to take extra care of the major indicator of aging, which is the skin.

Below are some tips that can help you wage war against the unpleasant results of aging.

1. Protect your self from the sun’s damaging and deadly rays by using safe and effective sun protection. Experts say that 90 percent of facial aging is cause by the damage brought by UV rays and radiation. You can protect yourself from UV rays by applying sun block or sunscreen daily, wearing clothing that helps protect your skin from the sun’s rays such as long sleeves and pants along with wide brimmed hats, and by lessening your exposure to the sun especially in its peak hours-10a.m. to 2 p.m.

2. Delay the process of aging by quitting smoking. Studies show that nicotine intake greatly contributes to the emergence of lines on the face, aging, and drastic changes to the skin’s texture as well as in its elasticity.

3. Take in lots of fluids especially water. Drinking enough water daily helps aid skin hydration and healthy cell formation. Aside from maintaining the skin’s water balance, drinking water also helps in the removal of waste products in the body.

4. Try to balance your nutrition. A healthy diet that includes fruits and veggies, lean meats and fish, with moderate intake of carbohydrates can help your skin maintain its youthful glow.

5. Supply your body with enough anti-oxidant supplements. Zinc vitamins A, C, and E which contribute to the skin’s ability to fight the damages of free-radicals caused by environmental factors such as pollution.

Acne Skin Care and Treatment Product

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

When suffering from intense and sometimes painful acne, skin care and treatment products can seem overwhelming. It is important to know and understand what you are dealing with. By taking a long look at what ingredients are in your acne skin care and treatment product, you will begin to understand why your skin may be drying up or flaking or even possibly burning.

There are so many different types of products available on the market and that is because there are so many different skin types out there. Everyone is different and what may be working well for one person may actually cause your skin a little harm.

So making sure to put great care into picking which acne skin care and treatment product you use is important and a decision you should not take lightly. There is no reason to be suckered into what all of the commercials say as this is something where advice should be taken from your family care doctor, instead of an actress on a television commercial. Also, when beginning to use your acne skin care and treatment product, you need to have realistic expectations so that you do not end up disappointed.

How to Pick the Right One

First things first, you need to talk to your doctor about your skin type. Understanding whether your skin is mostly dry, mostly oily, or even a combination of both is a good starting point in determining which acne skin care and treatment products you need to stay away from. There are certain chemicals in some products that will dry up your skin and that is not your best choice if your skin is already dry. Making the wrong choice could actually send you in pain and even more suffering such as skin that is even more dry or cracking.

Go over your lifestyle and make sure that you can keep the commitment that the acne skin care and treatment product is asking of you because if you are not going to be able to use it according to their specific directions, you might as while not even try at all. And if your first run with a new acne skin care and treatment product does not work as you had hoped, shrug it off to experience and try another one. Again, it is important to remember that not everyone is able to get the same results from every acne skin care and treatment product.
