The best step teens can take toward improving their skin may be to adopt a consistent skin care routine.
Acne affects up to 85 percent of all teens. Although most cases of acne can effectively be treated with over-the-counter products, teens may run through various products or combinations of products and get frustrated when they don’t see the results they desire.
Parents can help teens get the help they need by recommending a total approach that includes cleansing and treatment. Many teens do one but not the other. Now Stridex gives them two important tools uniquely packaged together in a single jar.
Stridex Dual Solutions features effective cleaning pads and intensive penetrating treatment gel. The soft-textured, alcohol-free pads clean skin and unclog pores while the medicated treatment gel targets those areas that need a little extra help.
Dual Solutions comes in two forms-Daily Pore Control and Intensive Acne Repair. Daily Pore Control addresses pore treatment and anti-blackhead needs. The gentle effective pads offer cleansing and full face coverage, while the intensive, pore-clearing, medicated gel helps treat blackheads and blemishes at the source. Both products contain salicylic acid. Intensive Acne Repair addresses pimple problems and comes with maximum-strength pads with salicylic acid and a benzoyl peroxide treatment gel to clear up and prevent breakouts.
“Having a consistent skin care routine is highly effective when treating acne,” says Dr. Charles Zugerman, M.D., a practicing dermatologist and associate professor of clinical dermatology at Northwestern University Medical Schools. “Maintaining a facial-cleaning and treatment routine using over-the-counter acne-fighting products is the most economical and effective way for teens and young adults to control complexion problems.”
While acne is often considered a teen issue, one in four men and one in two women will experience acne at some point in their adult lives. Over-the-counter treatments can also be effective in clearing up acne in adults.

How to ease Polyester Shirts scaling of psoriasis? How to prevent itching of psoriasis? What is a good home remedy for itchy skin? What is the best soap for itchy skin?
The right answers to these questions require making sure you know what is causing your skin irritation, so here are the basic facts about eczema vs. psoriasis. Medical textbooks refer to eczema as “the itch that rashes” after you scratch it. It’s just as correct to refer to psoriasis as “a rash that itches most of the time” if you scratch it The Atom not.
That’s because one of the basic facts about eczema versus infection, psoriasis, and numerous other skin conditions is that eczema rash only appears after you scratch your itch. In the highly unlikely event you never scratched, soaked, heated, rubbed, or even touched your itchy skin, the irritation of eczema would not cause a rash.
On the other hand, in its beginning stages, psoriasis will cause scaling or a rash, but it may or may not be itchy. The redness of eczema is caused by destruction of the skin, whereas the redness of psoriasis is caused by unusual growth of blood vessels.
Eczema symptoms include at least itch, followed by:
Red, irritated rash, followed by white scaly buildup on the skin (hyperkeratosis), followed by thickening, darkening, and roughing of the skin when it heals (lichenification), followed by altered skin color, followed by scratch marks.
On the other hand, the famous Hungary Psoriasis Study confirms that in the majority of cases of psoriasis there is first some kind of injury to the skin, and within the next 7 to 14 days there is:
A bright red rash thickening the skin, with well-defined boundaries, occurring at the same time as or quickly followed by:
Itching, commonly followed by formation of a raised silvery scale, sometimes followed by tender, painful joints.
When the scale pulls or tears off psoriasis-affected skin, there is usually bleeding, making the skin is susceptible to infection. After its beginning stages, psoriasis can even constitute a medical emergency when there is widespread cracking, fissuring, and infection of the skin.
Eczema is sometimes controlled by eliminating offending foods from the Tegretol In its beginning stages, psoriasis may be made more manageable by adding omega-3 fatty acids (usually from safe, inexpensive, and natural flaxseed oil or fish oil supplements) to the diet.
Psoriasis research studies show that psoriasis symptoms are also helped by short-term fasting (as little as 18 hours), low-calorie diets, and vegetarian diets. Use of vegetarian diets is helpful because the fatty acids derived from arachidonic acid, found in especially high concentrations in beef egg yolks, and fried foods, counteract the benefits of fatty acids in stopping the production of irritant hormones.
And although psoriasis research studies are preliminary on the relationship of Wonder Woman to psoriasis, generally speaking, in beginning stages, psoriasis is more likely to be relieved by eliminating gluten and wheat products, while the irritation caused by eczema is more likely to helped by eliminating dairy from the diet.
Psoriasis usually responds to supplementation with natural or synthetic vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and selenium. When it comes to psoriasis, B-12 supplements probably don’t have an effect, but vitamin B-12 creams (usually made with avocado oil) usually do. And especially in men aged 18 to 54, alcohol consumption is a risk factor for psoriasis symptoms.
How to ease the scaling of psoriasis? Here the answers aren’t quite the same as my list of eczema home remedies. The least expensive and most effective household remedy for psoriasis is turmeric, but use it externally, not internally!
Turmeric pastes (homemade by adding a tablespoon of turmeric to a half-cup of olive oil and dabbing the mixture to affected skin) can relieve itching and irritation, although their effects are not immediate. You can apply turmeric pastes to skin on almost any part of the body affected by psoriasis, external ear, face, elbows, trunk, etc., although you may smell a little like curry powder until you wash it off.
Don’t eat your turmeric to control psoriasis, especially if you use Plavix or Coumadin.
How to prevent itching of psoriasis? What is the best soap for itchy skin?
My readers tell me they get good results from any soap containing neem oil, although neem’s effects are more noticeable for treating the irritation of eczema than for treating the itch of psoriasis. Also useful for both psoriasis and eczema is a combination of honey, olive oil, and beeswax, applied to the skin after bathing. Published medical research finds that this simple, safe, and inexpensive combination fights both yeast and staph infections.

There are many different treatments of acne. The treatment method you select will depend in part on the severity of your condition and the type of acne you have. It is important that you work with your medical care provider to select a treatment method that is most likely to be effective. Most doctors will start with medications that cause the fewest side effects. Treatment duration is usually for two to three months.
The whitehead or blackhead pimple (comedo) is the easiest to treat. It is the least severe type of acne. Retinoid topical medications are applied directly to the skin in the form of a cream, gel or lotion. Retinoid medications slow the growth of keratin and thus decrease pimple formation as well as prevent the blockage of hair follicles which also can lead to new pimples. If you have oily skin you will be given a retinoid jell, which has a drying effect. For dry skin you will be given a retinoid cream or lotion that has a moisturizing action. The topical treatments are usually applied twice a day. If you can not tolerate the Retinoid topical medications other topical treatments are available such as Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid and an antibiotic preparation.
The more severe forms of the whitehead or blackhead pimple may require mechanical removal; this is referred to as comedo extraction. This procedure is performed by a dermatologist or family physician. The physician will use an anesthetic cream to numb the area, then open the top of the pimple and remove the inner plug. Follow up treatment with a cream is generally recommended.
Mild to moderate acne associated with inflammation (redness and soreness) are usually treated with a combination of different types of topical medication. The treatment combination includes topical retinoids or topical antibiotics, and benzoyl peroxide. The treatment of choice is usually topical retinoid and benzoyl peroxide. Bensozyl peroxide works both as an antibiotic and prevents pimple formation.
Acne associated with severe inflammation and pain may require oral antibiotics (tetracycline or erythromycin) or oral retinoid known as isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Accutane). Oral antibiotics are rapid and effective in inhibiting the growth of the bacteria that causes acne. Oral isotretinoin is potent treatment of severe acne. It blocks sebum secretion, inflammation, and the overgrowth of keratin that leads to pimples.

The good news is that acne is usually a “transient” or temporary problem, meaning once you pass your teen years it is likely that you will never have to battle acne again. Admittedly however, sometimes severe acne can leave scaring or pockmarks, or continue into the adult years. Sometimes inflammation of pockmarks may result in permanent alterations in the skins hue as well.
What is Acne?
Acne comes in many different degrees of severity. Basic ‘acne’ referred to as pimples, are typically raised lesions on the skin that are usually not to painful. Sometimes a substance called sebum accumulates behind your first layer of skin overlying a pimple, this is typically referred to as a white head. The redness around a white head is due to inflammation that can be associated with pain.
What Causes Acne?
There are four primary factors that influence your susceptibility to acne.
Blocked hair follicles due to an overproduction of skin cells referred to as “keratinocytes.” These skin cells combine with a fatty material called sebum to form a plug in the follicle, resulting in acne.
Enlarged sebaceous glands, responsible for producing sebum. Enlarged glands are common during adolescence. These glands are concentrated in areas such as the face, upper back and chest.
Increase in bacterium growth. The increased sebum in the face, back and related areas promote the overgrowth of a type of bacteria referred to as “propionibacterium acnes” which results in acne.
Inflammation due to bacteria growth. Sometimes an eruption occurs as skin cells and follicles become inflamed due to bacterial growth.
Hormonal changes that typically occur during the teen years are often responsible for acne formation. Teens generally produce more sebum than adults, resulting in an increased incidence of acne. Other substances including oil-based cosmetics may contribute to a build up of fatty sebum in the skin, producing an environment that is more acne prone. Even excess humidity and moisture on the skin can contribute to acne.
Some oral contraceptives (birth control pills) can make acne worse. Women should ask their physician to prescribe a pill that typically has a low activity of androgens, such as demulen, ortho-cyclen, ortho-tricyclen, desogen, ortho-cept or yasmin.

Knowing the basics of skin care is a must not only to prevent acne and other skin problems but also to promote self-esteem in an individual. Let’s take a look on two of the acne-producing attributes and the basics we need to remember and do.
1. If You Have Oily Skin
Oil is good for the skin because it keeps it moisturized and younger looking. Oily skin may be an advantage because it inhibits the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and discolorations. It also tans gorgeously and is less likely to freckle. However, an oily skin may look shiny or dull. But too much oil spells A-C-N-E. Yes, excessively oily skin is actually prone to acne breakouts.
Here’s what we should do:
1. Wash your face two or three times a day. Washing it only once is not enough to wash away the dirt accumulated all in a day’s (or nights) work while over washing can make your skin dry.
2. Use products specifically made for oily skin. From cleansers, toners to cream you are sure to find the one that suits your skin. It is not always easy to find the best product. Experience tells me that it may take quite sometime and quite a few “experiments” on trying out these products before you find the one that is perfectly made for you. Ask your dermatologist for suggestions and possibly, prescriptions.
3. Use non-comedogenic make-up (water-based) to avoid acne aggravation. Comedogenic or oil-based make-up only adds to the oil that your skin is producing and traps more dirt on your face.
2. If You Have Enlarged Pores
Pores are actually normal and essential. But some people hate them. If the skin is not being cared for appropriately and regularly, the pores of the skin will eventually become enlarged. And you surely do not want this to happen because larger pores can trap more dirt and have it clogged, causing the outbreaks of unsightly acne. There are numerous ways to cleanse, refine or minimize pores. Here are some of them:
1. Use pore minimizing lotions and creams. You may want to try any Pore Refining Cream or Pore Minimizer Refining Lotions.
2. Steam your face. This way, clogged pores will be forced to open in turn making it easy to remove the dirt. Apply face mask as soon as you’re done.
3. Deep pore cleansing. You can do this twice a month at the most to make sure your skin is free from trapped dirt. You can do this at home or with the help of your dermatologist. Products you can try are Clear Pore Cleansing Mask or Deep Pore Cleansing Mask.
4. Wash your face with lukewarm water. Hot water only enlarges your pores.
5. Wear sunscreen because too much sun exposure may cause enlarged pores.
6. Exfoliate regularly. It not only a cleansing regimen but it also improves your pore appearance. Some of exfoliating products are used simply for exfoliating while some are used for other skin care treatment such as moisturizing and cleansing.
With proper and regular skin care, you surely are on the right track to lessen your present acne conditions, or better yet, maintain an acne-free skin.

There are millions of people around the world who suffer with acne (Zits); but this is a skin condition that can be treated. It is one of those areas where research has continued to make advancements; recent medical advancements are, in fact, proving to be very effective in treating this condition. Although the number of skin care for acne products and treatments might at first seem endless, they can actually be categorized into three areas:
* Preventative: Creams, lotions etc. to help cleanse and tone the skin
* Drugstore or Internet: Treatments that do not require a prescription
* Prescription only treatments
General or preventative products form part of a large skin care market, they deal with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help to stop acne. Whilst many sufferers use these products there are even more people who just want to keep their skin clean and conditioned.
Many of these cleansers act in almost exactly the same way as acne products which have been formulated to limit the amount of oil or sebum forming in the pores. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.
Exfoliation skin peels have proved quite effective as a skin care treatment and at controlling the problem. There are now more and more of these types of products available over the counter. This type of peel helps reduce the chance of oil clogging up the pores as well as removing other skin impurities; this can reduce the bacterium growth on your skin.
There are specialized skin care for acne products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. Products that contain the chemical benzoyl peroxide and the naturally occurring salicylic acid are used in vanishing creams. They work by removing the excess oil from the skin and halt the growth of acne.
You should start with a product that has lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin responds. Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also popular as a skin care regime. It might just be a case of trial and error, if nothing seems to work speak to your dermatologist for any advice or try a different skin care for acne product.
On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment. In more serious cases your skin care specialist may decide that a small surgical procedure can be used to remove the oil and infection from your pores. You are warned never to attempt this yourself as it could lead to serious skin problems.
In Closing
Your skin problem could be treated by a doctor prescribed hormonal based treatment. These hormonal based skin care treatments are sometimes very effective when the acne is caused by hormonal changes. There are a wide variety of effective acne treatments on the market so dealing with acne is not the concern it used to be. The good news is that now a previous acne sufferer can now be acne free.

Allergic forms of the eczema are treated with antihistamines and corticosteroids. This medical condition is treated with topical medications, both corticosteroid and non-corticosteroid. In severe cases, systemic (pill) corticosteroids may be needed to control it. In older adults, ultraviolet (UV) radiation is sometimes used against atopic dermatitis, but the skin cancer risk makes this unsuitable for younger people.
Contact dermatitis is treated by removing the irritant responsible and letting the skin heal. The only cure for lichen simplex is to stop scratching.
If you have sensitive skin, you will have to live with it. Susceptibility to most forms of eczema is genetic and unavoidable. Knowing what allergens and irritants to avoid can help you get through life without being inconvenienced by eczema.
Varicose eczema isn’t an allergic or inherited problem. You can prevent it by keeping in good physical shape so that blood flows freely through the legs. Support stockings assist in pumping the blood up out of the leg. Elevating your leg also increases circulation.
Mild seborrhea can be treated and prevented with over-the-counter dandruff shampoos.
Other tips to help you deal with eczema include:
* Bathe in cool or tepid water with gentle soap.
* Use moisturisers immediately after you bathe to keep the moisture locked in. Be cautious of perfumes in these moisturizers, as they may worsen the condition.
* Avoid scratching affected areas. Some people wear cotton gloves at night to prevent scratching in their sleep.
* Keep your fingernails short.
* Don’t let sweat stay on your skin.
* Avoid clothes that don’t let the skin breathe.

Atopic dermatitis appears as red, itchy, dry skin. It tends to first appear in childhood, and may disappear completely before adulthood. It most often affects the area behind the knees and around the elbows, as well as the face. In infants, it often appears on the chest, scalp and neck. Atopic people who contract the herpes simplex virus can be struck by eczema herpeticum, a dangerous secondary infection of the inflamed skin that causes a worsened rash and fever.
Seborrhea in adults is dandruff. In babies, it can form a thick yellow flaky rash on the scalp. In severe cases, bacteria can build up in fatty deposits, producing an unpleasant odor.
Nummular eczema appears as itchy, red, coin-shaped areas with discharge on the limbs and torso.
Contact dermatitis usually causes a dry, red rash, although there is often some discharge with the rash from poison ivy. The area involved may be a clue to the responsible allergen or irritant. The worst forms of allergic contact dermatitis, such as severe latex condom reactions, can be associated with the potentially fatal allergic reaction called anaphylaxis, which is a body-wide response to the allergen.
Varicose eczema appears as inflamed, scaly skin around the lower legs and ankles. Over time, it may turn dark brown.
A rare and severe form of eczema called statis dermatitis can result in bacterial infection and chronic ulceration. If left untreated, this condition can lead to potentially dangerous complications, such as cellulitis, which can be life-threatening.
Making the Diagnosis
If you get inflamed skin, it’s important to tell your doctor about any allergies you have and any unfamiliar substances you have recently come in contact with. Looking at the skin itself will often allow a physician to distinguish particular types of eczema. In people over the age of 6, when the doctor suspects the disease is allergic, you will probably undergo a series of allergy skin tests. The physician scratches the skin with a variety of common allergens to determine which ones you’re allergic to.

Healthy skin represents healthy body. If something is wrong in our body system, we often notice there is change in the skin. If we had skin problems, we should ask advice from medical practitioners because it may connote something serious within our body.
To take care of our skin, we have to know how to get good and healthy skin.
Boils, carbuncles, blackheads, pimples or any skin infection are caused by impure blood. Go on a prolonged diet and stop eating meats of all kinds. It is also advised to avoid eating between meals. Also, avoid cane sugar, white flour or white flour products. Get plenty of exercise in the morning outside to get fresh air too. Eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and well-cooked grains.
Cold rubs are very helpful. Use towel and rub vigorously afterwards to increase the circulation.
Make a strong tea of red clover blossoms, using three or four tablespoonfuls, granulated, to the quart of water. Steep one-half hour in boiling water, covered. Drink this tea freely in place of water. Chickweed tea may be used also in the same way. If you follow this treatment, using either of the herbs as directed, the skin disease will disappear.
Citrus fruits are beneficial in all skin troubles. For external treatment make into tea the following for bathe of infected or affected skin: Equal parts golden seal, Echinacea, yellow dock root, burdock root, and with hazel bark. These should be mixed thoroughly. Use a heaping tablespoonful of this mixture to a pint of boiling water, steep one-half hour, pour off the liquid or strain, add a level tablespoonful of boric acid: this will keep the fluid from souring. Apply a number of times during the day to the affected parts.
