Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Get that charming look and glow on your face by taking very little care of your skin. You too can spread your charisma of beauty with the smooth and clean face. External beauty is the result of internal healthiness and hence, a very good and balanced diet is very important for glowing skin. Take plenty of water and other juices made of vegetables and fruit. Intake of at least 2lts of water is must as; it hydrates the body and detoxifies the system leaving a healthy and young skin.

Consume a balanced diet and take vitamin A and E for smooth skin. You can also supplements it by taking break up capsules, fresh fruit and vegetables. Stress leads to damage of skins and results in wrinkles and acne problems. You need 8 hour’s of undisturbed sleep each night and a tension free mind. Hormonal imbalance is caused due to tension and stress ensuing pimples, blemishes and wrinkles at early age.

Identify your skin type - dry, oily or combination and then treat your skin gently. Always keep your skin free from dirt and dead cells. Wash your face twice a day with the right cleanser and use mild scrubs. Exfoliation of skin is very important for removal of dirt and to open the pores to avoid clogging. Use warm water and never be harsh with your skin. Always remove cosmetics before sleeping in the night because your skin also needs to breadth. Use a suitable night cream or just dab aloe vera oil/gel. Avoid using highly fragrant soaps on face; you may just use oatmeal and sugar to clean the surface of your skin. Ensure hypoallergenic beauty products and always splash cold water before the application.

It is always better to cover your skin when exposed to sun and pollution. But too of sun block is also not advisable as, it gives Vitamin D that adds sheen to your skin. Male skin is more exposed to dirt and hence, is 15% oilier than female. A little extra care can work wonders for sensitive skin and is great for under eye treatment. Always use toner and astringents (as per skin type) and odor free after-shave lotions. Toner gives your skin a firm look and prevents clogging of pores. Skin breakouts are the results of oil and dirt in our hands. Avoid touching your face with hands and keep your hair off.

Never touch, pinch, scratch or press your facial skin to get rid of acnes or heads (white/black). Always use applicators to wear makeup or other creams. Keep the applicators and brushes clean for simple hygienic reasons. Another tip is, not to share your beauty products with anyone. A smooth skin is the outcome of personal hygiene and little care.

Your skin lives just as long as you do and reflects the state of your mind and your age but dull, sluggish and wrinkled skin can occur due to inadequate or occasional skin care. Following some simple guidelines and incorporating them in your daily routine can help you get baby soft skin that you’ll love to feel.

Easy Tips and Techniques:

* Remember to cleanse daily, as this is the first step towards acquiring baby soft skin that is smooth to the touch. Cleansing gently but thoroughly brings you one step closer to your goal of younger and healthier skin as it rids the skin of dead cells that give it a dull, sluggish appearance and opens the pores, allowing the skin to breathe. Toning it afterwards helps tighten the pores and vitalize the skin while following up with a good moisturizer helps nourish the skin and supply essential oils for a glowing complexion.

* A weekly exfoliation is necessary to rid the skin of surface impurities and removing the layer of dead skin cells, environmental pollutants that block the pores and cause blackheads and pimples and give it a fresh, youthful look.

* Avoid products with harsh chemicals and go in for those that have a natural base and are primed with vitamins and minerals necessary to replenish the body’s natural ph levels and hydration requirements.

* Apply body lotion and face cream while the skin is still moist with water after a bath/face washing routine as this is the ideal time to moisturize your skin because pores are still open and most receptive to accepting skin nourishment.

* Remember to wear sunscreen at least 20 minutes before leaving the house and reapply every 4 hours if you intend being out in the sun. The reason why babies have such touch-me, soft skin is that they have minimum exposure to harmful UV rays of the sun that cause wrinkles, tanning and skin cancer at the worst.

* Supply extra moisturizing on dry and rough areas like the heels, elbows, knees, and hands, before going to sleep as this is the time when your skin rests and is not subjected to harsh wind or sun damage so can absorb moisturizer better.

* Drink at least half your weight in ounces of water every day. This means, if you weigh 140 lbs., you need to drink 70 ounces of water daily to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

* A daily dose of a multivitamin will help you in your skin-care fight to ward off damage and wrinkles, while regular application of baby oil after your shower will help absorb it better in the steam-filled environment.

* A variation to this is adding 5 capfuls of baby oil in the bath water and following it up with baby lotion after your bath. Massage this onto your moist skin in slow, circular motions till totally absorbed into the layers to give you a nourished, healthy baby soft skin-tender to the touch.

Acne Scar Removal Options

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Life hardly seems fair sometimes! First, a teenager or a young adult must suffer through acne, treat it, and have to live with it…sometimes for years. Then the acne is gone; but, the scars are there as a painful reminder of the mental and emotional agony the acne sufferer had to endure.

You’re right, life doesn’t seem fair; but, acne is one of those sad facts of life that some if not most of us have to deal with. The good news is there is help; unfortunately, it isn’t free or cheap!

There are two basic procedures that are used to remove ugly pits and scars left over from a bad case of teenage or young adult acne. Laser resurfacing is the least expensive of the two available acne scar removal procedures. Dermabrasion is the second procedure.

Laser resurfacing can be done in the dermatologist office instead of a hospital so that provides a much greater financial savings. A laser is used to remove the top layer of skin and also to tighten the middle layer of skin.

The dermatologist will use a local anesthetic to help reduce the procedure pain. It usually takes several days for the skin to heal after a laser resurfacing procedure is completed. Very often, multiple resurfacing treatments must be done to achieve the desired results.

The second procedure used to remove acne scarring is called dermabrasion. In this procedure, a rotating wire brush is used to remove the top layer of skin. The body continually produces new skin and the new layer will be smoother than the layer that was removed. It usually takes between 10 days and 3 weeks for the skin to heal after a dermabrasion treatment. Once again, multiple treatments may be required to eliminate the scarring.

Acne may seem to be a devastating condition but with proper skin routine, vitamins, and over the counter products, most cases will not be severe. Remember, proper cleansing goes a long way towards minimizing outbreaks, so don’t be afraid to cleanse your face 5 - 6 times a day of more if needed.

Fight acne by being smart. Take as many preventative steps as possible to avoid situations that create the opportunity for acne to develop. If acne does afflict you, consult a qualified medical professional before deciding on a course of action.

Acne Skin Care

Friday, September 19th, 2008

As we know, our hair follicles secrete sebum. Sebum makes its way up the hair follicles to the skin pores where it lubricates and protects the skin. Sometimes there are oil glands which get overworked, get enlarge, and produce too much sebum. The sebum can get trapped in the hair follicle.

When this happens the pores get clogged and black heads or white heads form and the bacteria start to multiply at an alarmingly fast rate.

Once you understand this process, you can see the reasoning behind the advice about caring for skin that has black heads, white heads and pustules on it.

The first piece of advice about caring for acne infected skin is to never pick at the pimples. Don’t try to pop them and drain them. This will not cure them no matter what anybody tells you. Popping them will only serve to make them worse…not better.

However, there are things that you can do that really will help.

The first thing you can do is to wash your face with a mild soap or a sulfur based soap. Wash your face with just your finger tips. Don’t ever use a wash cloth as it holds germs and bacteria. Rinse your face with clean water several times to ensure you remove all traces of soap, and then pat it dry with a clean towel. Do not rub your face with the towel and never use the same towel twice without it being clean.

Take a good multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement every day and drink at least 8 full glasses of water (not soda) every day. The vitamins and minerals will supply nutrients that are absent from most diets and the water will help to hydrate the skin as well as to flush toxins out of your system.

If you use over-the-counter acne medications, be certain that you follow the directions carefully and that you use a good sunscreen when you are outdoors as some acne medications make the skin more prone to sunburn.

The 8 Stages Of Acne

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Full blown, Stage 8 acne doesn’t usually develop overnight. Acne is progressive condition. Acne is one of the diseases that are so common that it is sometimes just disregarded as a serious problem…like the common cold. It has been estimated that 95 of people will have at least a mild case of acne at some point in their lives.

Acne, much like the common cold, is usually treated by the sufferer with over-the-counter medications that alleviate the symptoms of the disease in the belief that it will simply go away all by itself….eventually. And, it usually does but not always.

Most people throughout their life will have the occasional pimple, zit, white head or black head.

Although these pesky little outbreaks do seem to appear at the most inopportune times, they really aren’t a serious problem that requires medical attention. A little over-the-counter acne facial wash to help prevent another outbreak will usually take care of the problem. It isn’t a big deal. This kind of acne is referred to as Stage 0 and really nothing to be concerned about unless the acne progresses to subsequent stages.

Acne stages are graded from 0 through 8. Zero is the least severe and 8 is the most serious of the stages. The stages are as follows:

Stage 1: There will be white heads and black heads with some mild inflammation. The outbreaks will start to occur more frequently. Using products that contain Benzyl Peroxide are in order.

Stage 2: There will be some papules in addition to the white heads and black heads. Papules are skin lesions that are solid and raised but usually small. This is still considered to be a very mild case of acne. Treatment can be continued using over-the-counter products that contain Salicylic Acid.

Stage 3: Stage 3 is the same as stage 2 but with more frequent occurrences.

Stage 4-5: Pustules begin to appear. Now, it’s time to schedule an appointment at a dermatologist.

Stage 6-7: Nodules and cysts are forming. Scarring is going to start happening at this stage. Your dermatologist will begin to take more drastic action.

Stage 8: Breakouts are almost continuous and include nodules and cysts. There are modern technologies that will help and your dermatologist will advise you.

Acne Vulgaris

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

What is Acne Vulgaris?

This is a medical term used to describe most cases of acne. It really isn’t as bad as it sounds! Vulgaris doesn’t mean that the acne is vulgar, only that it means that it is common.

Be aware that there are many factors that contribute to acne. First, research indicates a propensity for acne may well be inherited. Parents who had acne in their teenage and young adult years may have children who are likewise prone to having acne in their teen and young adult years.

Next, clogged skin pores are certainly a major contributing factor for acne out-breaks. When pores become clogged with an excess production of sebum and mix with dead skin cells or makeup that isn’t sufficiently cleaned from the skin, problems start to develop. When skin pores are clogged, bacteria are produced and pus starts to form causing a pimple, a white head or a black head.

The most commonly accepted causes for acne are hormonal imbalances. Hormones in boys and girls may become unbalanced during puberty, during menstrual cycles, when starting or stopping birth control pills, during times of extreme stress, and at other times as well.

All of the above situations can cause the body to over produce a male hormone which causes the sebaceous glands to produce sebum. The sebum combines with dead skin cells to block pores and acne develops. So, basically, it still comes back to blocked pores.

Other causes for acne include a lack of vitamins, minerals and trace elements that the body needs to maintain a healthy skin. Vitamins A, E and B6 are especially important in maintaining healthy skin as are zinc, essential fatty acids (EFA), Chromium and Selenium.

Most diets of teenagers and young adults do not contain these vitamins, minerals, and trace elements in sufficient quantity to maintain healthy skin and to help prevent the onset of Acne.

Learn The Symptoms And Treatments Of Eczema

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

As the cause of eczema is still not fully understood it makes dealing with the condition a problem as some believe that genetic factors are involved; the genetic link remains to be proved. This skin condition is easy to recognize with areas of dry, red skin that are very itchy.

These are not the only signs because someone who suffers with it may also have some blisters in these areas that appear to have a crust like surface.

The most common type is known generally as atopic eczema; like all the other types, this one is characterized by itching as well. Atopic eczema brings with increased itching compare to other forms but is relieved when the sufferer scratches; Find out why Eczema is a serious problem

More over this just makes the condition worse. Unfortunately a serious side effect is the skin becomes much more sensitive; as a result, products like detergents, soaps and often cosmetics just inflame the condition.

In small children it can usually be seen, in most cases, as a patch just below the child’s skin. There are occasions where a person with eczema can have a rash but it is not itchy; the disorder is not responsible if the itching is not present.

A similar situation can occur when a person is given eczema treatment for an itchy rash and it helps the itch but the rash remains then the two probably aren’t connected.

The diagnosis of the skin disorder is not that simple because there are other medical conditions which cause itchy skin. Eczema itching and rashes go hand in hand but medical science still can’t full explain why the skin itches the way it does. Another symptom is redness so when your blood flow increases, the skin becomes very red.

Apart from making the eczema worse when the sufferer scratches, it might also damage the delicate skin surface; even slight bacterial infections can cause inflammation. Small blisters are quite common around the affected area and sometimes these blisters are large; a bacterial infection or a condition of your particular skin type many be the cause of this. There is a need to be careful with these blisters as they contain fluid, often pus; bursting these blisters is not advisable if you do not want further infection.

Pregnancy and Eczema

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Eczema is a difficult thing to handle during normal times and unfortunately if it occurs while a woman is pregnant then it is much more difficult as there may not be a normal treatment that can be undertaken while you are pregnant.

Best way is to apply a natural moisturizer and avoid contact with too much of water. Contact your doctor before taking any medicine if you are suffering from Eczema.

Modern science has revealed to us that fetuses as young as 20 weeks old can hear (in fact doctors have recorded that some react to ultrasound at 16 weeks onwards). They hear the sounds within the mother’s body as well as external noises. It has also been observed that these fetuses react to sound. They react differently to different types of sound for example they relax on hearing soothing music.

They also start recognizing sounds while still in the womb. They are known to recognize their mother’s voices as well as the voices of other people and even television music that they were regularly exposed to while still in the womb. This shows that fetuses not only have the physical capacity to hear but also the requisite mental capacity to recognize what they have heard.

The Hindu religious texts have mentioned instances where babies in the womb have not just listened to voices while in the womb, but also understood what they heard and remembered it after birth and years later too.

Take Good Care of Your Skin

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Youth is loved by the entire planet. It isn’t always easy to resist the hundreds, even thousands, of skin care products on the market. While there are products available with definite benefits for your skin, many of the products make exiting claims that fall short. The most important thing to know is how to treat your skin, and from there you can develop a skin care routine that incorporates only the products you need.

First of all, you should have a basic skin care routine. This means cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser at morning and at night, along with a toner rich in antioxidants. At night you might want to use an ex foliating scrub, but for sensitive faces only use once every three or four days. As you age, you will want to add more time to your skin care routine. For one, you want to add an eye treatment to your morning routine, and a night cream to your evening routine. These creams are especially formulated for the delicate skin around the eyes, where the skin loses collagen and will be the first area to wrinkle.

Prematurely aged skin, unsightly wrinkles are both caused by the suns harmful rays, added to this, it can cause skin cancer, which is one of the top cancers affecting Americans these days.

Also harmful to your skin, and health, is cigarette smoke, even if it is just second-hand. If you smoke, seek aid to quit, and if you spend a lot of time around a smoker or in a smoke-filled location, try to find ways you can change that - not just for your skin, but for your health as well. Even if your skin looks great, lung cancer can strike and it your skin really won’t matter.

If you require more serious skin care, for acne or similar afflictions, see a dermatologist. They will help set up a treatment plan that best suits your need. Remember, even though you may not always want to go out of your way to take care of your skin, anti-aging skin care is best done preventively. What Are The Best Acne Treatments

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

It wasn’t that long ago when acne (Zits) was considered a curse for the many individuals that suffer from this problem; but that doesn’t mean it’s something that cannot be tackled. Research into the causes, and possible treatments, for the condition is ongoing; the result of this effort is new, more effective, treatments are becoming available. We can classify acne skin care products into 3 broad categories:

* Preventative: Creams, lotions etc. to help cleanse and tone the skin
* Over-the-counter: Treatment
* Prescription only treatments

Preventative products are formulated to treat the skin in an effort to control the occurrence of acne; this sector deals with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help stop the problem. This is a market where many people use this type of product every day to condition their skin; many use these products to protect their skin from the environment even if they do not have the acne condition.

Some of these products are designed to act like an acne skin care product and act against the causes of this complaint; devised primarily to limit the amount of oil or sebum forming in the pores. When the pores become clogged with this oil, bacteria which can cause the problem begin to grow.

Skin care treatments such as exfoliation skin peels, clean the skin and help control the spread of the condition; these can be bought easily over the counter or on the internet. They work by reducing oil plus other contaminants from the skin and in the pores; this can reduce harmful bacteria and stop their chance of growth.

There is a huge market for these types of acne skin care products as they don’t require a consultation with a dermatologist. A bacterium that aids the formation of acne is stopped by creams and cleansers that contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid; these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.

Generally it is best to start using this type of product with only a small amount of benzoyl peroxide (less than 5.5 percent is recommended), just to see how the skin reacts; alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are a safer skin care regime alternative if there is a problem. As with any type of zit cream, you may need to try a few acne skin care products until you find one that will suit your skin; if none of them work then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist. Products that your dermatologist or doctor will recommend will only be available on prescription, they may include a course of antibiotics or topical ointments.

Your dermatologist may suggest a minor operation to remove the contents of pustules; specialists never recommend the sufferer tries this themselves as it can cause permanent skin damage. Your doctor could prescribe a hormone-based treatment to treat your skin problem; hormone changes can be responsible for acne but hormone therapy can be very effective when used under prescription. Constant research has paid off, and whilst they cannot cure the condition, it is becoming easier to treat.

Acne Care: A Total Approach

Friday, August 29th, 2008

The best step teens can take toward improving their skin may be to adopt a consistent skin care routine.

Acne affects up to 85 percent of all teens. Although most cases of acne can effectively be treated with over-the-counter products, teens may run through various products or combinations of products and get frustrated when they don’t see the results they desire.

Parents can help teens get the help they need by recommending a total approach that includes cleansing and treatment. Many teens do one but not the other. Now Stridex gives them two important tools uniquely packaged together in a single jar.

Stridex Dual Solutions features effective cleaning pads and intensive penetrating treatment gel. The soft-textured, alcohol-free pads clean skin and unclog pores while the medicated treatment gel targets those areas that need a little extra help.

Dual Solutions comes in two forms-Daily Pore Control and Intensive Acne Repair. Daily Pore Control addresses pore treatment and anti-blackhead needs. The gentle effective pads offer cleansing and full face coverage, while the intensive, pore-clearing, medicated gel helps treat blackheads and blemishes at the source. Both products contain salicylic acid. Intensive Acne Repair addresses pimple problems and comes with maximum-strength pads with salicylic acid and a benzoyl peroxide treatment gel to clear up and prevent breakouts.

“Having a consistent skin care routine is highly effective when treating acne,” says Dr. Charles Zugerman, M.D., a practicing dermatologist and associate professor of clinical dermatology at Northwestern University Medical Schools. “Maintaining a facial-cleaning and treatment routine using over-the-counter acne-fighting products is the most economical and effective way for teens and young adults to control complexion problems.”

While acne is often considered a teen issue, one in four men and one in two women will experience acne at some point in their adult lives. Over-the-counter treatments can also be effective in clearing up acne in adults.
