Men usually don’t care about our skin. It’s a simple fact.
We tend to think we are made from an indestructible material, and that our skin is made of iron. And so, we go on in life, shaving everyday, standing in extreme weather on our vacations, and eating junk food. But hey, our skin is actually deteriorating each passing day, and it’s not a matter of attitude, “machismo”, or whatever you’d like to call it. It’s a matter of health. And in today’s world men facial care is even a matter of social life.
You may not know this, but we men, have very sensitive skin. I used to ignore this also, until I notice my skin was getting too dry, now I have to use baby’s soap because the doctor told me that my skin type is very sensitive. He went on saying that a large portion of men have this same type of skin, and it is due to bad eating habits, lack of exercise and basic men facial care treatment . But what is most disturbing is that most men also ignore this, or they do not take proper action.
So what is proper action?
There are certain habits to take in consideration when you start caring about your facial skin care. Here are some tips that will help you get started in men facial care:
* Drink water, a lot. Water is good for overall health; it is a common advice to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

* Exfoliate your face twice a week. Exfoliation helps removing the dead cells on your facial skin, the result will be a skin free of impurities.
* Protect yourself from the sun. Keep in mind doing it in a healthy way, for example if you’re staying too much time outdoors with a hot weather. Don’t use too much, because sun blockers contain chemicals. Nowadays even some moisturizers have sun protection.
Remember this is all men facial care basic stuff. People have different skin types that have their own issues. You should visit your doctor if you notice anything strange in your skin. With warmer weather and longer days, everyone wants to escape the confines of the indoors.
But with the fun of basking in the sunshine comes the extra need to avoid skin problems.
“When going from cooler to warmer weather you can run into several problems such as hay fever, asthma and eczema,” said Dr. Joe Moyer, an allergist at the Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Center in Myrtle Beach.
“As temperatures get warmer, some individuals break out in hives. That probably has something to do with how the skin regulates body heat using the skin as a radiator. The blood vessels in the skin dilate to cool the body and that can worsen the rash we call hives.”
Humidity also can promote allergic reactions, he said.
“If you are prone to having eczema, sweating can cause it to itch and the scratching will result in a rash. We sometimes call eczema ‘the itch that rashes.’ People will typically itch first, then scratch, and then get the red, dry, flaky skin a few hours later.”
Some chemicals used in various commercial products also can cause allergic reactions, a condition called contact dermatitis, to many of the chemicals used in commercial products such as sunscreen.
“Contact dermatitis does not respond to treatments with things such as Benadryl,” Moyer said. “It responds better to steroids. So if you have not been exposed to outside plants like poison ivy, it may be something you are putting on your skin.”
Warmer weather also may cause some people to have breakouts of acne or blackheads because of increased oil production, said Catherine Pelton of Dermavogue Aesthetic Laser Center.
“In summer, people will benefit from cleansers with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in it to help control oil production,” she said.
Pelton also stressed the need for protecting skin from the sun.
“It’s important in any season to use sunscreen, especially in summer,” she said. “Make sure it has UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of 30 or more. Then of course, water intake is very important, too. Also, wear lightweight clothes that allow the skin to breathe more.”
Larissa Gedney, clinical nutrition manager at the Conway Medical Center, said staying hydrated during the summer is important.
“It can be very easy to become - and actually very dangerous if you become - dehydrated. So fill up on eight glasses of noncalorie fluids like water, Crystal Light and things like that. Other popular summertime drinks, if they have too much caffeine, can have a counterproductive effect in staying hydrated. Alcohol and caffeine act as a diuretic and do not fill the need.”
Some foods are good for the skin as well, she said.
“Fruits and vegetables are helpful especially now,” she said. “Also try to eat foods that have antioxidants in them and foods with vitamins C and E. Fatty acids such as Omega 3 and Omega 6 found in walnuts, bananas and almonds are also helpful for the skin.”

So you’ve got this new baby in your arms, but how do you take care of its skin? Your first thought will be to ask friends and family what they did when they had kids, and with mixed results you often get a nice confusing concoction of advice, remedies, and rigid guidelines to ponder over in your hours between feedings and changings.
And if you’re really worried about it, you probably consulted a baby book. Bad move mom. Now you’re really freaked out worrying about bathwater temperature, proper baby lotion, the exact way to apply said lotion, and which, for the love of god, which diaper rash cream should you use?!
Yeah, I’ve been there too. It seems after you’ve had a new baby all you have time for is worrying about random silly thinks like baby skin care like there is no tomorrow. Mostly this is hormones screwing with your wiring just to make sure you’ll be a good mom. Don’t worry! You’re a great mom and you’re doing a terrific job.
Now here’s those practical skin care tips for that new baby that won’t make your blood pressure skyrocket:
1. Do whatever is easiest for you - You’ve just cracked out a kid, give yourself a break. If bathing in the bathtub together is easier, go for it. If you can stand up for 20 minutes straight and want to bathe your kid in the kitchen sink go for that too. I found it pretty easy to take a shower with my son after he hit about 6 months. He might not have been particularly chuffed about the experience, but I got him and me clean at the same time. Multitasking never got better than that.
2. Don’t sweat brushing until they have teeth! - Yeah, you might want to wipe his gums off occasionally, but bacteria isn’t going to build up in a baby mouth that doesn’t have teeth. And even if it does, what is it going to rot? When teeth start getting cut look for a natural glycerin based toothpaste designed for babies.
3. Fingernails 101 - Probably the most terrifying moment of your life will be when you take a giant pair of fingernail clippers to your newborns finger for the first time (just for the record, I had to do this the night James was born). Babies will not keep those mitts on, so you’ve got to get the nails short so his cute little head won’t scratched up.
I found that at first nails can easily be picked and then peeled off because they’re very soft. After about 3-4 months this stops working so you’ll need to invest in a set of fingernail scissors. These are blunt tipped scissors and much easier to use than fingernail clippers (at least until your baby is crawling, and then you need to be fast on the draw and clip when you can catch him).
4. Wash Wisely - For the record, babies don’t need oil, lotion, soap, shampoo, conditioner, or any other skin care product. Most of that is just chemical ladened junk with a nice marketing message telling you to buy, buy, buy for your new baby.
If you find your baby getting dry skin, look for a lotion that doesn’t contain mineral oil or water. Aloe Based Lotions are the best because they’re actually able to penetrate and heal baby’s dry skin. Mineral oil makes lotions sit on the surface of the skin, not actually penetrating to heal the dryness. Water dilutes the lotion and makes it just as ineffective because our skin is naturally waterproof.
Think about this for a moment, if your baby is younger than 6 months, what is he really getting into that’s making him so dirty? Why are you scrubbing soap on his skin like he’s been mud wrestling in a pigsty all afternoon? Even after 6 months, there really isn’t any reason to use soap unless your kid decided wearing his food was more fun than eating it. Soap really drys the skin so if you don’t have to use it, your kid will probably be better off.
Mostly I would just rinse James’s skin real well and make sure I got under all his chins because milk and food seemed to collect there. Some nights when my husband and I were tired we would just top and tail him (wipe down his head and bottom) and then put him down to bed. Honestly he seemed to appreciate it when I didn’t mess with him too much and just let him get to the business of sleeping quickly.
5. Diaper Rash Dilemmas - Diaper rash happens no matter what type of diapers you use. I used Desitin diaper rash cream for about 12 months before learning realizing that it contains ingredients that can cause testicular development problems. Needless to say, I immediately started looking for an alternative. I’ve found that using a Pure Aloe Jelly and intense moisturizer can really take care of diaper rash quickly.
Especially watch diaper rash creams for toxic ingredients. It’s really sad that even baby products aren’t regulated and that skin care manufacturer’s continue to formulate products with damaging ingredients. The right answers to these questions require making sure you know what is causing your skin irritation, so here are the basic facts about eczema vs. psoriasis. Medical textbooks refer to eczema as “the itch that rashes” after you scratch it. It’s just as correct to refer to psoriasis as “a rash that itches most of the time” if you scratch it The Atom not.
That’s because one of the basic facts about eczema versus infection, psoriasis, and numerous other skin conditions is that eczema rash only appears after you scratch your itch. In the highly unlikely event you never scratched, soaked, heated, rubbed, or even touched your itchy skin, the irritation of eczema would not cause a rash.
On the other hand, in its beginning stages, psoriasis will cause scaling or a rash, but it may or may not be itchy. The redness of eczema is caused by destruction of the skin, whereas the redness of psoriasis is caused by unusual growth of blood vessels.
Eczema symptoms include at least itch, followed by:
Red, irritated rash, followed by white scaly buildup on the skin (hyperkeratosis), followed by thickening, darkening, and roughing of the skin when it heals (lichenification), followed by altered skin color, followed by scratch marks.
On the other hand, the famous Hungary Psoriasis Study confirms that in the majority of cases of psoriasis there is first some kind of injury to the skin, and within the next 7 to 14 days there is:
A bright red rash thickening the skin, with well-defined boundaries, occurring at the same time as or quickly followed by:
Itching, commonly followed by formation of a raised silvery scale, sometimes followed by tender, painful joints.
When the scale pulls or tears off psoriasis-affected skin, there is usually bleeding, making the skin is susceptible to infection. After its beginning stages, psoriasis can even constitute a medical emergency when there is widespread cracking, fissuring, and infection of the skin.
Eczema is sometimes controlled by eliminating offending foods from the Tegretol In its beginning stages, psoriasis may be made more manageable by adding omega-3 fatty acids (usually from safe, inexpensive, and natural flaxseed oil or fish oil supplements) to the diet.
Psoriasis research studies show that psoriasis symptoms are also helped by short-term fasting (as little as 18 hours), low-calorie diets, and vegetarian diets. Use of vegetarian diets is helpful because the fatty acids derived from arachidonic acid, found in especially high concentrations in beef egg yolks, and fried foods, counteract the benefits of fatty acids in stopping the production of irritant hormones.
And although psoriasis research studies are preliminary on the relationship of Wonder Woman to psoriasis, generally speaking, in beginning stages, psoriasis is more likely to be relieved by eliminating gluten and wheat products, while the irritation caused by eczema is more likely to helped by eliminating dairy from the diet.
Psoriasis usually responds to supplementation with natural or synthetic vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and selenium. When it comes to psoriasis, B-12 supplements probably don’t have an effect, but vitamin B-12 creams (usually made with avocado oil) usually do. And especially in men aged 18 to 54, alcohol consumption is a risk factor for psoriasis symptoms.
How to ease the scaling of psoriasis? Here the answers aren’t quite the same as my list of eczema home remedies. The least expensive and most effective household remedy for psoriasis is turmeric, but use it externally, not internally!
Turmeric pastes (homemade by adding a tablespoon of turmeric to a half-cup of olive oil and dabbing the mixture to affected skin) can relieve itching and irritation, although their effects are not immediate. To properly care for your skin you need to follow the daily 4-step skin care routine, from the right way to wash your face to the best moisturizers and UV protection. It is also very important to know your skin type as this will dictate how you care for your skin.
Step 1: Cleanse

Step 2: Exfoliate

Step 4: Apply Sunscreen

You can use two moisturizers: one for the night and one for the day (with UV protection). Don’t use moisturizers with sunscreen at night.
